Pool Alarm and Sensor Code Requirements

Not every jurisdiction requires a pool alarm, but where one is required, a generic alarm often doesn't meet the specific compliance standard. The Woodlands Township Covenants require Design Review Committee approval for pool and backyard construction in nearly every village, and that review covers fencing, setbacks, and drainage as well as the pool itself.

Where Alarms Are Code-Required

Some Texas municipalities require door/gate alarms on any door with direct pool access, in addition to a compliant fence, as part of the layered-barrier requirement; this varies by jurisdiction and is confirmed during permitting rather than assumed.

Meeting the Actual Standard

Where required, alarms typically need to meet a specific ASTM or similar compliance standard, not just "an alarm," which is worth confirming before purchase; a non-compliant alarm installed to satisfy a code requirement can fail inspection.
